The 31-year-old New Zealand National Cricket Team right-arm pacer Matt Henry faced a hamstring issue during the World Cup match against South Africa National Cricket Team and was forced to leave the field.

The Tom Latham-led New Zealand National Cricket Team are taking on Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team in the 32nd match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, November 1 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

Matt Henry, who has the ability to bowl consistently over 140kmph, has been in red-hot form in the ongoing edition of the ICC World Cup. Just like his 2019 World Cup campaign, where he took 14 wickets, the pacer has been making match-winning impacts with the ball in the 2023 World Cup.

Heading into the clash against South Africa, Matt Henry had picked up at least one wicket in all six matches for the Black Caps. However, he wasn’t able to pick any wicket in his first 6 overs against South Africa, and in the middle of his sixth over, he suffered a hamstring issue and was forced to leave the field.

After bowling the third delivery of his sixth over to Rassie van der Dussen, Matt Henry looked in some kind of discomfort.

He then had conversations with seniors Tim Southee, Trent Boult, and skipper Tom Latham and together they decided to send Matt Henry back to the pavilion to rest.

In the replays, it showed that the pacer held onto his right hamstring after delivering the ball to Rassie van der Dussen and looked in pain. Also, James Neesham was called to bowl the last three balls of Henry’s over.

After a few minutes, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) issued a major update on the pacer. They took to X to reveal that the pacer felt tightness in his right hamstring and as a precautionary measure he returned to the pavilion. NZC further informed that the pacer won’t return to the field.

“Matt Henry is currently off the field in Pune after feeling tightness in his right hamstring during his 6th over. #CWC23,” the BlackCaps wrote on X.

“Following further assessment he will not return to the field at this stage,” NZC further stated.
