The veteran New Zealand National Cricket Team pacer Tim Southee castled the star South Africa National Cricket Team batsman Rassie van der Dussen in the 32nd match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday, November 1 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune.

Rassie van der Dussen showcased a batting masterclass against the Kiwis and smashed his second century of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Van der Dussen came to the crease early after the dismissal of skipper Temba Bavuma inside the powerplay overs. Together the duo gave a hard time to the Black Caps bowlers and played an attacking brand of cricket after being cautious initially.

Quinton de Kock and Van der Dussen added 200 runs in 189 balls before the dismissal of the centurion wicketkeeper-batter in the 40th over. After losing his partner, Rassie van der Dussen kept dispatching the ball past the boundary ropes and finally finished his innings with a score of 133 runs. He took 118 to score his runs and his innings also consisted of 9 fours and 5 sixes.

Rassie van der Dussen was dismissed by Tim Southee on the first ball of the 48th over. The veteran quick bowled a 116.1kph off-cutter and Van der Dussen got beaten due to the lack of pace. The ball then hit the back thigh before rattling the stumps.

Riding on the centuries from Quinton de Kock and Van der Dussen, the Proteas posted a massive total of 357/4 on the board. Overall, South Africa have gone past 300 in eight successive games while batting first with all of the scores coming in 2023.

Speaking during the mid-innings break, the wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock said that he is in his best form currently. He also opined that they have posted enough runs on the board

“I think so (best form). I am feeling really good lately. Nice that everything is coming together at an important time for us. They bowled really well upfront, especially Boulty. I felt quite scratchy upfront, I couldn’t find my rhythm, I was getting a couple of messages from the guys on the bench to bat through. I just want to keep batting. .

“My career is coming down to a finish, trying to bat as much as I can. If the wicket stays the same, it will be good enough. The wicket does get better under lights. 357 is always a good score, but we are playing against a really good team, let’s see what happens.”
