Rishabh Pant smashes twin tons

Pant, who is the second-most senior batter in the new Indian Test team, led his team from the front by playing exceptional knocks in both innings against the Ben Stokes-led side.

The Test vice-captain played in his classic style and played some unorthodox shots while falling on the ground, but hit a brilliant century in the first innings. He slammed 134 runs off 178 balls and helped the visitors register a huge score of 471 on the board.

Rishabh Pant continued his batting brilliance in the second innings, and in slightly tougher conditions, he showcased his very best and slammed yet another century.

He built a sensational partnership with KL Rahul and completed back-to-back hundreds in the 70th over, which was bowled by Shoaib Bashir.

On the fourth ball of the over, Shoaib Bashir bowled a length ball outside off-stump to Pant, who reached out and cut it away towards deep point for a single.

He was delighted after completing his century and took off his helmet, soaked in the applause, before hugging KL Rahul. Sunil Gavaskar was seen gesturing to Pant to do the somersault celebration, but the wicketkeeper-batsman denied the request and gestured that he would do it the next time.

With his twin tons in Leeds, Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to hit a hundred in each innings in a Test match and only the second wicketkeeper to hit twin hundreds in a Test match.
