Australia opened with Travis Head, the left-handed, aggressive batter who was sent up to counter the English bowlers. He returned the pressure back on the English bowlers from ball one and did not let them settle.

Australia seemed on the front foot after the first innings of play, as their bowlers did a remarkable job with the Bazball for just 172 runs. Mitchell Starc remained the pick of the bowlers with a 7-wicket haul.

England counterattacked and took a lead of 40 runs against the Aussies in their batting innings. However, adding on to the lead, England could only manage to score 164 more runs, thus setting a target of 205 in front of the mighty Aussies.

Travis Head leads Australia with a quickfire century in Perth

Unlike the first innings, where Marnus Labuschagne was promoted to the top of the batting order, Travis Head, their traditional opener, was promoted to the top in the second innings.

Travis Head is known for his intense carefree attitude and stunning resort in the game. Head smashed the English bowlers and slandered the bowling attack by all means.

He helped Australia to go dominant and fearless to claim a victory in the very first Ashes, on just the second day of play. Head scored a century off just 69 balls before taking his team past the 200-run mark with a 123-run inning.

He was dismissed after having struck those runs with a strike rate of 148 and 4 sixes in his innings. This is surely a man-of-the-match performance from Travis Head.

Usman Khawaja suffered a back injury during England's second innings

Usman Khawaja, the Australian opener, has not opened the innings for Australia across both innings. The 39-year-old cricketer has been suffering from recent injuries; instead, Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head opened for Australia in the two innings, respectively.

Skipper Pat Cummins has further confirmed that Usman Khawaja sustained a major blow to his back, which flared up again when Khawaja was fielding in the slip cordon. He attempted a jump above the head, and the distress started again.

Hence, he could not open in the second innings, and his recovery is expected soon, because Australia would not be able to tackle any further injury setbacks.
