KL Rahul hits brilliant ton

Rahul is the senior-most batter in the Indian Test team following the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and he has taken the additional responsibility on his shoulders very well.

He played a classy knock in the first innings after India were invited to bat first and was involved in an impressive 91-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal that put England under pressure early on in the innings

However, Rahul got out while chasing a delivery outside off-stump for 42 runs and missed out on a well-deserved half-century.

When he came out to bat in the second innings, Rahul looked even more focused in the middle, and despite losing his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal in the third over, he didn't panic.

Rahul was cautious in his approach, but he batted with a positive intent and put pressure on the hosts. He stitched up a crucial partnership with Sai Sudharsan before building a game-changing stand with Rishabh Pant.

The right-handed batsman completed his fifty off 87 balls and then set his eyes on the three-figure milestone. He completed his century off 202 balls in the 62nd over, which was bowled by spinner Shoaib Bashir.

On the last ball of the over, Rahul hit the full-length delivery from Shoaib Bashir towards sweeper cover and took a double to reach his century.

Rahul calmly celebrated the milestone by removing his helmet, raising his bat, and kissing the crest on his India helmet before hugging Rishabh Pant. This was the 9th century for Rahul in Test cricket, and overall his third ton in England.

Sankatmochan KL Rahul - Irfan Pathan

As Rahul hit the ton, Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton lauded him on-air for his high-quality knock while Irfan Pathan, Dodda Ganesh, and Harsha Bhogle lauded him via X.com.

“A high-class knock from a high-class player. What a joy to watch," Nasser Hussain said on Sky Sports.

“A standout element, other than his defensive technique, has been his cover-driving and that is how he got to this wonderful hundred," Michael Atherton said.

"Sankatmochan KL Rahul," the former India National Cricket Team all-rounder Irfan Pathan stated.

"Outstanding century by @klrahul. Absolute class. Test match batting of the very highest order. So happy for him," the veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote on X.

"A century of highest quality by KL Rahul. Easily one of his best innings ever #ENGvIND," former cricketer Dodda Ganesh stated.
