"Opposition Doesn't Even Think About Bowlers Like Arshdeep Singh": Aaqib Javed Calls Indian Pacer 'Basic'

Arshdeep Singh has been under the pump as he hasn’t been able to play the role of 3rd Seamer perfectly. The pacer did try his best but there weren’t enough runs for him to defend against Pakistan & Sri Lanka. The management would be aware of the fact that the left-arm pacer is quite new to the International Arena and it would be harsh to judge him.

Indian Cricket Team had a forgettable Asia Cup 2022 where they were knocked out in the Super 4 stage. A lot of questions were asked about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and most importantly he was seen as furious which was quite unlike him. Aaqib Javed was seen having interaction with Sports Paktv and when asked about Arshdeep Singh, he made interesting comments.

“He’s just a basic bowler. In T20s, you either need a bowler like Bhuvneshwar Kumar who can swing, or you should have pace. Or, you should be tall enough to throw in those bouncers. You need to have a trademark. When you see the bowlers around the world, you notice that,” said Javed.

“For example, Bumrah just darts in the yorkers with perfection. Hardik Pandya’s bouncers are quite lethal. Shaheen has a great swing and Haris has a great pace. So, Arshdeep is.. just like any other bowler. He doesn’t really have a trademark. The opposition doesn’t even think about bowlers like him,” Javed claimed.

Selection Conundrum for Rahul Dravid

Head Coach Rahul Dravid would be aware that BCCI has appointed him for a better show in ICC Tournaments.  After a disastrous Asia Cup 2022, there are questions raised over Dravid’s appointment. We should not forget that this is Dravid’s maiden national coaching stint as earlier he used to coach India ‘A’ & Under 19.

Rahul Dravid needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat as currently, the team is in tatters. No player’s batting position in the team is fixed as we have seen Hardik come ahead of Pant and still there is a puzzle regarding Dinesh Karthik’s place in the team. It won’t be wrong to say that the No.1 ranked side has lots & lots of problems in their setup.
