The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the dissolution of the current national selection committee in anticipation of the T20 World Cup 2024. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has revealed the formation of a new selection committee for the men’s national team.
The PCB has made significant changes to the team in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. This decision follows a string of disappointing performances by the team. However, the cricket board is yet to announce the head coach and support staff.
Wahab Riaz Remains Part Of Newly Formed Selection Committee
Earlier today, the PCB dissolved the previous selection committee led by Wahab Riaz. The PCB chief emphasized that the new committee members would have equal authority to ensure a smooth decision-making process, removing the position of chairman.
The newly formed selection committee includes Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, and Asad Shafiq. The remaining three members of the committee will consist of the head coach, captain, and data analyst, whose identities have not been revealed yet.
Each Member Would Have The Same Power – Mohsin Naqvi
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that each of the seven members will have equal authority without a designated chairman. Naqvi reassured that the selection of committee members was carefully considered based on various factors.
“We have reorganised this selection committee, this [selection committee] will consist of seven members, but what is different this time is there will be no chairman selection committee, each member would have the same power as the other one,” Mohsin Naqvi told media in Lahore.
“The decision would be [decided] on the majority, they should debate, and talk amongst themselves so a better conclusion can be reached. The previous structure of the committee was different, but this one, I assure you every member was chosen after considering multiple factors,” he added.
Sure That They Will Give Good Results – Mohsin Naqvi
The chairman clarified that although two to three coordinators will be appointed, they won’t have voting rights within the committee. He stressed that the chairman’s role should be separate from the selection process to ensure effective team management.
“This committee will decide every single decision from now on. They are our key players in the management who will make decisions and I am sure that they will give good results,” Mohsin Naqvi said.
“The chairman should have no role in the selection process, we are the management and our job is to manage the team. I am hopeful that these new members will give you positive results,” he added.
Naqvi also revealed plans to appoint the head coach and coaching panel within the next four to five days. Additionally, the selection committee will decide Shaheen Afridi’s tenure as T20I captain after the conclusion of the national camp in Kakul on April 8.
The Pakistan cricket team‘s forthcoming fixtures include a five-match T20I series against New Zealand. The first three matches will be held in Rawalpindi from April 18 to 25, and the final two matches in Lahore on April 25 and 27. Before the T20 World Cup, they are scheduled to compete against England.
