Shaheen Shah Afridi has become the leader of Pakistan’s bowling attack in a short time

Shaheen Shah Afridi has had an astronomical rise in international cricket since making his debut in April 2018. In less than three years, he has become the leader of the bowling attack and is touted to achieve great success in the future.

He has played 15 Tests, 22 ODI, and 21 T20I for Pakistan picking up 48, 45, and 24 wickets respectively. Shaheen, at just 20 years old, also recently became the youngest pacer to 100 scalps in T20 cricket overtaking India’s Jasprit Bumrah, who was 23 at the time of his tally of 100 T20 wickets.

Playing for the Lahore Qalandars, the left-arm seamer was in superb form in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 – he had snared 9 wickets in just 4 matches at an average of 12.55. Unfortunately, however, the tournament has come to an abrupt halt due to 7 confirmed positive cases.

6 players and 1 staff member have been tested positive for the covid-19 and hence the season has been postponed; all the players and officials have been placed in quarantine with immediate effect with no further news of the resumption of the competition.

Ahead of the PSL, Babar Azam’s side whitewashed South Africa 2-0 in the home Test series and won the T20I series by 2-1. The Men in Green will return the favour and are scheduled to travel to South Africa for 7 white-ball matches.
