The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Monday (October 23), denied the recent reports and rumors about an internal discord in the Pakistan team.

With things not going well on the field for Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup, rumors stated that not all was well within the dressing room. Last month too, reports suggested that some senior players were unhappy with captain Babar Azam. Reports suggested that even Shahid Afridi was trying to help Shaheen Afridi become the captain.

The former captain himself had to deny the rumors. And the rumours have resurfaced once again with Babar’s poor run with the bat in recent times only adding fuel to the fire. The Pakistan captain has struggled to score runs in recent games and there have been calls from several quarters to sack him as well.

Amidst all these, the PCB has denied rumors of any unrest in the dressing room. Calling the rumors and reports false, the PCB stated:

“The Pakistan Cricket Board strongly denies recent speculations about any internal discord in the national cricket team currently participating in the ICC World Cup 2023.

“Contrary to rumours circulated by a certain section of the media, the PCB unequivocally assures that the team is cohesive and there is no evidence to support these unsubstantiated claims.

“The PCB is disappointed by the dissemination of this false news and emphasises the importance of upholding journalistic ethics before spreading such allegations,” added the statement.

Pakistan’s campaign so far:

The Men in Green have had a very inconsistent run so far. They began their campaign with two wins. In their first game, they registered a comfortable 81-run win over the Netherlands before chasing down a record total of 345 against Sri Lanka. But things have not gone well for them since then.

In their third game, the Babar Azam-led side suffered a crushing 7-wicket loss at the hands of hosts and arch-rivals India. And in their last game, they lost by 62 runs against Australia. With two wins and two defeats, the 1992 World Cup winners cannot defeat more slip-ups in the competition.
