Babar Azam stood tall for his team in the ongoing game against Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023. The Pakistan captain was the lone warrior for his team in match 22 of the tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Babar Azam batted his heart out despite Afghanistan spinners keeping things tight with the ball. While his batting class was unmatchable, a hilarious moment was also on the cards that hogged the headlines and left many in splits.

The incident took place during the 5th ball of the 40th over.  Noor Ahmad bowled a googly to which Babar Azam got an under edge. The ball hit onto his back leg and hit Ikram Alikhil’s thigh and then went on to hit his box before going down. It was a dropped chance but left many in splits.

Here’s the video:

Babar Azam came to bat when Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq (17). He steadied the innings well and made sure that he silenced all the critics. He was under-pump going into the game as his poor form saw him getting criticised.

Babar Azam looked confident ever since he arrived at the crease and played some good shots. He made sure that his side kept scoring runs despite wickets falling at the other end. He slammed his second half-century of the tournament, having earlier scored one against India in Ahmedabad.

PAK vs AFG: Babar Azam perishes for 74 runs against Pakistan

Babar Azam couldn’t finish his innings on high as he fell for 74 runs against Afghanistan. The Pakistan captain was dismissed against Noor Ahmad, who picked his third scalp of the day. The skipper made sure that his side put a good total on the board, on a slow pitch.

Babar Azam slashed a short ball from Noor Ahmad off the back foot but hit it straight to extra cover. He batted for 92 balls and also smashed 4 fours and 1 six in his innings. This innings would’ve given him much-needed confidence as he was well short of runs in the tournament. He will be crucial for his team going ahead into the ICC World Cup 2023.
