Pakistan Director of Cricket Mohammad Hafeez revealed the conversation he had with Mohammad Rizwan following his controversial dismissal in the second Test against Australia. He revealed that the keeper-batter told him that the ball didn’t hit him anywhere near the gloves.

The Day 4 of the second Test between Australia and Pakistan was marred by the controversial dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan. The visitors were right on the track in their chase of 316 runs with keeper-batter playing a great hand for the team.

Mohammad Rizwan looked settled at the crease and was playing a great hand. With the way he was batting, he gave a real threat to Australia but his dismissal changed the fortunes of his side. The keeper-batter getting out, however, triggered a bit of controversy as he was deemed out in an unusual way.

Pat Cummings dug in a short ball to which Mohammad Rizwan tried to dodge himself. The ball went close to his gloves and the Australia skipper was confident that he had his man. The umpire didn’t give it out and the hosts immediately went for the DRS.

The third umpire had multiple looks at the dismissal. There was a spike as the ball passed the wrist band but the Hotspot technology didn’t show any mark. The officials were convinced enough and they deemed Mohammad Rizwan out.

Mohammad Rizwan couldn’t believe that he was termed out. He didn’t want to leave the crease because he was adamant that he didn’t hit the ball. But he had to take the long walk back to the pavilion and was left disappointed with the way things panned out.

Mohammad Rizwan managed 36 runs but after his dismissal, things changed drastically. Pakistan faced a massive collapse and lost the last 5 wickets for just 18 runs and in just 40 balls. They eventually fell short of 79 runs and also lost the series 2-0 with one match to go.

PAK vs AUS: “He Told Me…,” Mohammad Hafeez Reveals Conversation With Mohammad Rizwan After His Conversation Dismissal

Mohammad Hafeez wasn’t happy with umpires terming Mohammad Rizwan out. He opened up about the conversation with the keeper-batter and said that the batter is an honest person and he was sure that he didn’t hit the ball.

Mohammad Hafeez further pointed out that there wasn’t any conclusive evidence to overturn Mohammad Rizwan’s dismissal. He added that during the game, technology turned out to be a curse for them. Speaking to reporters, he explained:

“I spoke to Rizwan, and I believe he is a very honest person. He told me that the ball did not touch anywhere near the gloves, and there should be conclusive evidence to overturn the decision of the on-field umpire.

“Based on what I know, the umpire gave it not out, and there was no conclusive evidence for the decision to be overturned. I don’t know what more to say. In this instance, the technology turned out to be a curse rather than something helpful.”

The dead-rubber third Test between Australia and Pakistan will be played from 3rd January at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Pakistan would be hoping to make a strong comeback. Although the series is gone, they have crucial World Test Championship Points to play with.
