Pakistan all-rounder Aamer Jamal produced a jaw-dropping moment during the 3rd test against Australia in David Warner’s farewell test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

During the 74th over of the 1st inning, Jamal scored a reverse sweep six off Nathan Lyon’s half-volley ball which turned inside and Aamer Jamal switched his stance to dispatch the ball to the stands.

Jamal’s sensational shot is doing rounds on social media after it was uploaded by the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of Cricket Australia. His reverse sweep was a special shot for 2 reasons. Firstly, it was after a long time that a batsman played a reverse sweep shot in Test cricket, and that too for a six, which is something pretty rare to see.

Secondly, Aamer Jamal played that shot in a delicate situation when Pakistan were 9 down and Australia needed 1 more wicket to bundle the visitors off before the 300-run mark. Jamal himself was playing at 62 and was moving strongly towards his maiden Test century.

Marnus Labuschagne who was standing beside Aamer Jamal at silly point looked at wicket-keeper Alex Carey and cracked a smile in disbelief while the Pakistani crowd inside the stadium danced and jumped in joy to see that moment unfold.

Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, and Aamer Jamal’s Efforts Take Pakistan To 300+

Pakistan captain Shan Masood after winning the toss had elected to bat first in overcast conditions in Sydney. However, they did not get off to the best of starts as Pakistan lost both of its openers for a duck and were 4/2 by the 2nd over.

Then Masood himself tried to stitch a partnership with star batter Babar Azam but both of them could only add 35 more runs as Babar departed after another disappointing inning of 26 off 40. Number 5 batter Saud Shakeel too got out for just 5 runs while Shan Masood was dismissed soon after a hard-fought 35 off 70.

As Pakistan looked to be going towards another 1st inning embarrassment, middle-order batters Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha took charge and handled things in the middle. Both of them started taking on the Australian bowling line-up as the ball kept turning old and stopped making any sort of movement.

Both of them stood for a very important partnership of 94 before Rizwan became Pat Cummins’ 3rd scalp after scoring a quickfire 88 off 103. 30 runs later, Salman Ali Agha also walked back to the dressing room for 53 off 67 when Pakistan scored 226 runs.

Then came all-rounder Aamer Jamal to further increase Pakistan’s grip and runs on the board. He came out with the intent of playing a T20 match, batting at a strike rate of 84.54, hitting nine 4s and four 6s including that reverse sweep shot off Nathan Lyon.

As he kept his momentum on full flow, Australia kept taking wickets in regular intervals and it was on Nathan Lyon’s deceiving delivery that Aamer Jamal got out and scored 82 off 97 with Pakistan putting up 313 runs on the board. Australia’s 2nd inning on Day 1 lasted for only 1 over as the umpires called stumps with Australia trailing by 307 runs for no loss.
