Mitchell Marsh Impresses With Bat In Both Innings Of First Test

Australia posted a total of 487 in the first innings after choosing to bat. David Warner excelled in his farewell Test series, scoring 164 runs, while Mitchell Marsh contributed 90 runs. Debutant Aamer Jamal made an impressive debut with the ball, taking six wickets.

In response, Pakistan were dismissed for 271 in their first innings, with Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique contributing 62 and 42 runs, respectively. Nathan Lyon took three wickets, while Mitchell Starc and captain Pat Cummins claimed two each for the hosts.

Australia later declared their second innings at 233 runs for the loss of five wickets. Veteran opener Usman Khawaja scored 90 runs, and Mitchell Marsh remained unbeaten with 63 runs. Debutant Khurram Shehzad took three wickets for the visitors in the second innings.

We Need 15 Wickets And Need To Aim For 20 – Shan Masood

In the post-match show, Shan Masood emphasized the importance of scoring quicker, suggesting it could have made a difference in the lead. Masood praised the debutant bowlers, Aamer Jamal and Khurram Shehzad, for their performances.

“Look when you come to these shores, you look for progress. If you had told us that Australia will play 110 overs and we’ll play 100, I’d have taken that. We could have scored quicker and 60-70 runs would have proved the difference in maybe keeping that lead to a sizeable level,” Masood said.

“Discipline is something we would take from the Australian attack. We took 15 wickets and need to aim for 20. It’s never easy when you have two debutants in a four-seam attack. They have the first-class record, and they had a lot of overs under their belt. Aamer’s pace was decent and Khurram’s accuracy was good. We’ll take the positives and they did decently well,” he added.
