PAK vs BAN: 'What Kind Of Injury He Had Sustained?'- Sohail Tanvir And Umar Gul Accuse Shadab Khan Of Faking Injury Against South Africa

Former Pakistan cricketers Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul have accused Shadab Khan of faking his injury during the game against South Africa on Friday (October 27). Pakistan locked horns against the Proteas in a crucial World Cup clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Having lost three games in a row, Pakistan desperately needed to beat South Africa to stay in contention for a semifinal spot. However, the Babar Azam-led side ended up losing the game by 1 wicket. Although they are still mathematically alive in the competition, their chances of progressing ahead are extremely low now.

Batting first, Pakistan were all out for 270 runs in the 47th over. They started poorly with the bat and were reeling at 141 for 5 at one stage. But an 84-run stand between Saud Shakeel and Shadab Khan steadied the ship and they looked set to post a good total. However, they suffered another collapse and lost their last five wickets for just 45 runs. In reply, South Africa survived some nervous moments towards the end and chased down the total in the 48th over.

Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul accuse Shadab Khan of faking injury:

In the very first over of their bowling innings, Pakistan suffered a big blow. The lead spinner Shadab Khan walked out of the field after slamming his head on the ground while fielding. He returned to the field a while later but was eventually deemed unable to continue playing and was replaced by Usama Mir, as per the concussion substitute rule.

Sohail Tanvir and Umar Gul believe that Shadab Khan had faked the injury to save himself. Speaking on a television show, Tanvir stated that the leg-spinner should have fought. On the other hand, Gul said:

“First of all, I am very sad. I think we are done for this World Cup. Whatever we were hoping for in this World Cup, it has ended today. Like Sohail said, we don’t know what kind of injury he has sustained, but the crucial questions arise when you fall, claim to have a concussion, escape from the team, and go outside.

“The physio checks you, and then after a while, you come out. There, you chat with people and then leave. When the match gets tight, and you realize it’s going in our favor, you sit outside in the dugout, cheering. It means you’ve made an excuse; you’ve saved yourself. So people will definitely question it,” he added.
