Pakistan captain Babar Azam expressed confidence in his team’s strengths ahead of their first match in the ICC World Cup 2023. Babar Azam highlighted that fast bowling has been the biggest strength, but also mentioned the promising performances of their spinners.

Babar Azam showcased impressive form during the practice matches ahead of the marquee tournament. He scored 80 runs against New Zealand, followed by a 90-run knock against Australia. However, the Men in Green couldn’t secure a victory in the warm-up matches.

Fast Bowling Has Always Been Our Strength – Babar Azam

In a video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board on X (formerly known as Twitter), Babar Azam highlighted the consistent performances of all their batters. Babar said that they aim to maintain this momentum during the showpiece event.

“Both bowling and batting are our strengths. Our batters have been performing from the top-order down to the lower-order. Every player is stepping up and taking responsibility,” Babar told PCB Digital.

‘In bowling, our fast bowling has always been our strength, but even our spinners are showing promise. Since we have come to India, we have seen our spinners take wickets in the middle overs, which is a good sign. We will try and keep this momentum going.”

My Journey Has Been Really Good – Babar Azam

Reflecting on his cricketing journey, Babar Azam acknowledged the natural highs and lows. Babar highlighted the strong bonds formed with teammates over three years of playing together.

“My journey has been really good. There have been ups and downs, which is natural. There have been challenges at times, but I have tried to live up to the expectations of the fans. I have met a lot of good people in the process,” Babar further stated.

“I met some very good teammates and was able to forge a bond with them. It has been three years since I have been playing with these boys so we have bonded well in this time. At the end of the day, we spend more time with each other than we get to spend with our families. We try to be happy with each other’s performance and try to give our best for Pakistan.”

The Babar Azam-led team will kick off their World Cup against the Scott Edwards-led Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday, October 6.
