Mohammad Nawaz was quite unfortunate in the second game of the ICC World Cup 2023 against the Netherlands. The all-rounder was batting well until he got run out disappointingly at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Mohammad Nawaz along with Shaheen Afridi got engaged in the comedy of errors that saw the former back in the hut. The Pakistani pacer tried to play a reverse sweep and missed it completely. The Netherlands went for appeal and at the other end, the all-rounder was already halfway down the track as the ball went to short fine-leg.
Mohammad Nawaz was lucky enough to make it back as the throw came to the bowler, who failed to collect it. The ball deflected towards silly mid-on. It was then when Shaheen Afridi called him for a single but the all-rounder was late and the direct hit at the striker’s end saw him back.
Mohammad Nawaz batted brilliantly as he scored crucial runs for the team down the order that powered them over 280. The all-rounder scored 39 runs off 43 balls.
Mohammad Nawaz’s contribution powers Pakistan to a total of 286 runs
Pakistan were asked to bat first and they didn’t have a great start. The Men in Green lost three quick wickets and were tumbling at 38/3. But after that, Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel scored vital half-centuries that brought Men in Green back into the game.
However, after that, they again lost wickets in quick succession. But handy contributions from Shadab Khan (32) and Mohammad Nawaz (39) powered Pakistan to a fighting total of 286 runs. For the Netherlands, Bas de Leede was the pick of the bowlers as he picked a four-wicket haul. Apart from him, spinners bowled well as Pakistan struggled for the most part of the innings.
