The New Zealand cricket team have appointed one of their former all-rounders Andre Adams as their new Bowling coach ahead of the 5-match T20I series against Pakistan on home soil. The T20I series is slated to start from 12th January onwards with the 1st T20 taking place in Auckland’s Eden Park.

Andre Adams has become the latest entrant to New Zealand management led by head coach Gary Stead. Adams has already joined the team in Auckland and preparations have started in full swing for the all-important series against the sub-continent giants who have undergone some major changes after a disappointing end to their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign in India.

Pakistan have appointed left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi as their captain for the T20s against New Zealand. They will be looking to gain some fresh momentum from this series and it will be an important assignment for the Kiwis too for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June in the USA and West Indies.

It will be a series where both the teams will look to strike the right balance and figure out the best combinations with just 5 months left for the 20-team global event. Though some of the New Zealand players like Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, and Daryl Mitchell among others will feature in IPL 2024 which will help them get into the zone and get some practice, Pakistani players will try to gain further momentum from PSL 9 which starts from February.

The Blackcaps too have made some changes ahead of the series with their strength and conditioning coaches also been rested. But the best news for them is the arrival of Andre Adams who will replace Australia’s Shane Jurgensen who resigned from his position after New Zealand’s CWC semi-final loss against India.

Andre Adams was also the bowling coach of New Zealand’s Women’s team last year and his arrival is expected to help their bowlers sharpen their swords and be ready for a jampacked 2024.

Will Andre Adams Prove To Be The Right Choice For New Zealand?

Andre Adams did not play many games for New Zealand as his International career lasted just 6 years from 2001-2007. He collected 62 wickets in 47 matches across formats and could never make a strong impact for the team to be retained for a long time.

However, in his latest chapter with the New Zealand national team, Andre Adams will hope to make an impact this time around and his first major challenge will be to curb Pakistani batters. The Kiwis are actually favorites to clinch the series for more than one reason.

Firstly, home advantage will play a major role and secondly, Pakistan are coming to New Zealand after enduring a 3-0 whitewash in the Benaud-Qadir Trophy series in Australia.

Though Andre Adams did not find much success as a player, it will be interesting to see how his coaching role pans out with the Blackcaps.
