Pakistan spinner Usman Khan did not find a place in either the T20I or ODI squads that was named for the upcoming series against New Zealand. The leg spinner has played just one ODI and 23 T20Is for Pakistan.
Ahead of the start of the series, Qadir opened up about his time as an international cricket and said that has been a victim of nepotism and favoritism in the sport.
Talking to a local news channel he opened up on his journey as an international cricketer so far and has made a huge comment on Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. Qadir said that Babar Azam was not the one who helped him make his way into international cricket.
Mishab-Ul-Haq Brought Me Into The Team In 2019: Usman Qadir
“People often claim that I have been into the team on the basis of friendship – which is wrong. I hereby want to clarify that Babar didn’t bring me in Pakistan team. In 2019, when Misbah-ul-Haq was the selector, he brought me into the team. Everyone must be aware when a player is appointed as a captain for the first time; he really doesn’t have any authority” said Qadir.
IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
The leggie further said that Babar Azam is the skipper of the national team and has many things to think about for the national team. He is his friend off the field but that is not any help on the field.
“Babar is my friend – my childhood friend – but out of the ground. There is no sort of acquaintances in the ground – it depicts otherwise. It is not fair to blame the other person that their inclusion in the team is based on friendship and not on the basis of their skill or talent,” he further added.
He concluded by saying everyone thought that made it to international cricket based on favoritism but whenever he played for the national side, he was selected on the basis of his skill and not because he is friends with the team’s skipper.
I Never Went To Babar Azam And Asked Whether I AM Playing Or Not: Usman Qadir
“All that glitters is not gold – what it looks like from the outside isn’t the same from the inside. I never went to Babar and asked whether I was playing or not. He is representing the Pakistan team as a captain. He is the one carrying the team – the whole country is watching him. He has to take all the decisions, which in itself is a daunting task,” Usman concluded saying.
