Pakistan won the first T20I by 88 runs. They scored 182 batting first Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub scoring 47 each. Skipper Babar Azam (8) and Mohammad Rizwan (9) went out cheaply. Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim played good cameos in the end. Kiwi pacer Adam Milne picked up a hat-trick in the game but it came in a losing cause.

The Kiwi effort with the bat was substandard as they were bowled out for 94 chasing 183 to win. Mark Chapman top-scored with 43. Skipper Tom Latham scored 20 which was the next-best score in the Kiwi innings. Haris Rauf picked up 4/17. Shaheen Afridi, Zaman Khan, Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf took one each to bowl out New Zealand inside 16 overs.

This is a game the Kiwis will look to win to keep the series alive. A loss in the second T20I would make the final three games must-win for the visitors. The Kiwis are without their regular skipper Kane Williamson who picked up a knee injury in IPL 2023 and now is set to be sidelined for the next six months. He is also set to miss the ODI World Cup in India.
