The Kiwi effort with the bat was substandard as they were bowled out for 94 chasing 183 to win. Mark Chapman top-scored with 43. Skipper Tom Latham scored 20 which was the next-best score in the Kiwi innings. Haris Rauf picked up 4/17. Shaheen Afridi, Zaman Khan, Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf took one each to bowl out New Zealand inside 16 overs.
This is a game the Kiwis will look to win to keep the series alive. A loss in the second T20I would make the final three games must-win for the visitors. The Kiwis are without their regular skipper Kane Williamson who picked up a knee injury in IPL 2023 and now is set to be sidelined for the next six months. He is also set to miss the ODI World Cup in India.
