PAK vs SA: Watch - Mohammad Rizwan Channels Inner Alex Carey And Stumps Aiden Markram; Doesn't Appeal

Pakistan National Cricket Team wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan channeled his inner Alex Carey as he stumped Aiden Markram during the 26th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. However, for a change, he didn???t appeal for the wicket.

During the Ashes 2023 Test match at the iconic Lord???s Cricket Ground in London, Alex Carey and Jonny Bairstow found themselves at the center of a controversy.

Jonny Bairstow was stumped by wicket-keeper Alex Carey during the final day of the second Test match. Many felt that the dismissal was against the spirit of cricket and that the Pat Cummins-led side should have withdrawn their appeal.

Notably, Jonny Bairstow ducked a Cameron Green bouncer on the last ball of the 52nd over and he went out of his crease, thinking the over was called by the umpires. However, the ball was not yet dead and Alex Carey quickly collected the ball and launched it back to the striker???s end where it hit the stumps. Jonny Bairstow was well out of his crease and he was declared out by the third umpire.

A similar kind of thing happened in the PAK vs SA World Cup clash but with a little twist. After missing a delivery from Haris Rauf on the first ball of the 17th over, Aiden Markram walked out of his crease and Rizwan collected the ball. The Pakistan gloveman threw back the ball and it hit the stumps when the batter was well outside his crease. However, he didn???t appeal for the wicket.

Speaking on the Test Match Special, as quoted by the Independent, Carlos Brathwaite, highlighted the difference between the incidents involving Jonny Bairstow-Alex Carey and Mohammad Rizwan-Aiden Markram. He elaborated:

???The difference for me between that and the Bairstow one, is the length of time that Rizwan had the ball in his hands for. He had the ball in his gloves for a few seconds, put his head down, and then threw the ball.

???Alex Carey threw the ball instantaneously. It is close enough to draw parallels but as we say, he wasn???t going for a run out in the end. Rizwan was smiling with Markram afterwards.???
