The batters are expected to enjoy batting on the pitch with the ball coming nicely on the bat, with a bit of help for the fast bowlers with the new ball.

Having said that, Pakistan are not to be unpredictable and it won't be a surprise if they decide to offer a spin-friendly wicket as they did in the last couple of home series against England and West Indies respectively.

However, a spin-friendly wicket in PAK vs SA won't guarantee a win for Pakistan as was the case in the last Test against the West Indies.

The reason is that a turning pitch often bridges the gap between the two teams involved in that particular game, which was evident in the second Test against West Indies, which Pakistan lost.

It would be interesting if Pakistan were ready to take the gamble once again and risk losing a Test in an attempt to stick to their template of producing a square turner.

If the home team decides to stick with the same strategy, then South Africa will also fancy their chances of giving tough competition to their opponents.

If we assume that the Shan Masood-led side opts for a good cricket wicket, which will be good for batting on the first two days and start to crumble from day three onwards, then the tea bats first should look to score 350-360 runs.

Irrespective of how the wicket behaves, Pakistan would want their fast bowlers to pick wickets with the new ball, something which they have found difficult in the last couple of years.

The team would also wish for their batters to come good and have a strong outing to post an above-par total on the board.

If we talk about South Africa, they would heavily rely on their captain or this series Aiden Markram, to lead from the front due to the lack of experience in South Africa's batting lineup.

Conclusion

Pakistan would aim to make full advantage of their home conditions and build on the win they registered in the Test series against England, which was followed by a drawn series against West Indies.

The visitors, South Africa, on the other hand, would want to have a winning start to a new cycle of the World Test Championship in a bid to defend their title.
