Sri Lanka have made an early impact in the virtual semi-final of Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Fakhar Zaman has perished early in the must-win encounter and it’s fair to say that his place in the team going ahead would be under scanner.
Fakhar Zaman didn’t look comfortable at the crease in the ongoing game against Sri Lanka. The opening batter looked scratchy and that was well complemented by Sri Lanka’s Pramod Madushan, who bowled a staggering delivery to draw early blood for his team inside the first 5 overs.
Pramod Madushan bowled a sensational inswinging yorker at 138kph. Fakhar Zaman looked completely clueless against it as he was off-balance and half-forward as he attempted to push the ball. He got beaten on the inside edge and the ball went on to hit the stumps. The batter didn’t expect a late swing.

Fakhar Zaman managed just 4 runs off 11 balls and it’s fair to say that his failure against Sri Lanka wouldn’t have done any good to him. In the last 10 ODI innings, he has scored 190 runs at an average of 19.00. His scores read: 19, 14, 33, 2, 30, 27, 14, 20, 27, 4 (today).
PAK vs SL: Fakhar Zaman gets a lucky break in the playing 11 against Sri Lanka
Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman was lucky enough to make it into the playing 11 in the ongoing game against Sri Lanka. The opening batter was originally dropped from the team when the side was announced on the eve of the game. He was replaced by Mohammad Haris in the team.
However, just at the start of the game against Sri Lanka, Imam-ul-Haq had a back spasm and was ruled out of the game. This made Pakistan include Fakhar Zaman in the team again. Apart from him, Saud Shakeel too was unfit as he had a fever. He was replaced by Abdullah Shafique.
Here’s Pakistan’s playing 11 for the game against Sri Lanka:
Mohammad Haris, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Zaman Khan
