The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that all centrally contracted and international players must take part in at least one domestic tournament each season. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made it mandatory for players to play domestic cricket when they are not on national duty.
A key meeting took place at Gaddafi Stadium, led by Mohsin Naqvi, to evaluate preparations for both domestic and international cricket engagements. They discussed upcoming fixtures for the Pakistan Shaheens and also initiated work on finalizing central contracts for national players.
PCB Makes Domestic Cricket Mandatory for International Players
The Pakistan Cricket Board introduced a new mandate requiring all international players to participate in at least one domestic tournament each season. The decision aims to enhance the quality of domestic cricket and nurture emerging talent.
Mohsin Naqvi stated that domestic cricket is vital for producing high-caliber players and building a reliable pool of backups for the national team.
“Playing alongside international cricketers will help in grooming domestic players. A strong domestic cricket structure is essential to bring forward top-quality cricketers. Good backups for international players will emerge from domestic competitions,” Naqvi said, as quoted by Geo News.
The PCB is expected to announce the official timeline for rolling out the new policies in the near future.
Head Coach Mike Hesson Present at Pakistan Cricket Board Meeting
Key officials, including Director of International Cricket Usman Wahla, Head Coach Mike Hesson, Chief Operating Officer Sameer Ahmed, Team Manager Naveed Akram Cheema, Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed, and T20 captain Agha Salman, were present.
Usman Wahla provided an update on the international schedule, logistical planning, and player preparedness. The group reviewed preparations for the upcoming home series against South Africa and Sri Lanka, as well as the away tours to the West Indies and Bangladesh.
The PCB’s recent policy was also a major focus. Notably, the board views this move as a way to strengthen the domestic circuit and address concerns over the national side’s lack of bench strength, particularly in Tests and ODIs. The policy is expected to apply across all formats: first-class, List A, and T20.
