Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is taking a major step to take Pakistan Super League (PSL) to new heights. As per the reports in Pakistan media, it is learned that the governing body is looking to add two more teams in the 2026 edition of the league.

This means the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2025 will be the last six-team event. The tournament has been growing by leaps and bounds for the last few years and it massively helps the Pakistan team in the upliftment of their cricket.

The reports also suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board also discussed the potential window for the Pakistan Super League 2025. The governing body is keen to stage it in the same window as that of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in April-May. This is because the Champions Trophy will be taking place in Pakistan in February, the original window for PSL.

The Pakistan Cricket Board believes that staging the Pakistan Super League in the same window as that of the Indian Premier League will allow the game, players, and fans to benefit and flourish, especially with the kind of competition that will be in the fray with IPL 2025 too taking place.

The reports also claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board had discussions with franchise owners about the option of directly signing one player from the other franchise. This will be done in addition to the marquee player offer in which the governing body supports franchises.

It is also learned that the Pakistan Cricket Board is also considering Peshawar and Quetta as potential venues for the Pakistan Super League. However, it will depend on the environment of both cities. The governing body is looking to have support from both the venues.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi wants to bring Peshawar and Quetta back into contention for Pakistan cricket. Both venues are likely to get the domestic games in the 2024-25 season. It remains to be seen how many games will they be getting in the season.

We look forward to working closely with the franchisees to make timely decisions - PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer

PCB Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer recently talked about the schedule change for the PSL 2025. He claimed that they would be decided at the General Council meeting. While talking about the same, he stated:

"As always, we had a very exciting and interesting brainstorming session with the franchise owners on the window for HBL Pakistan Super League 2025. The passionate franchise owners provided their all-rounded insight and views on the PCB-recommended window and playoff venues for the 2025 event and beyond,"

"At the back of this meeting, and about the most suitable window for HBL PSL 2025 and beyond, the PCB will share further data with the franchise owners so that they can discuss amongst themselves, make a more informed decision and share their ideas and thoughts at the General Council meeting. We look forward to working closely with the franchisees to make timely decisions for the future trajectory of one of Pakistan’s biggest brands," he concluded.
