With uncertainty looming over the schedule and venue of the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is on the verge of facing a massive financial setback. The PCB’s hopes of securing big revenue from the T20 tournament have taken a serious hit.
According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board is estimated to earn nearly 8.8 billion rupees this year, combining the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Out of this, PCB is expected to earn a hefty USD 25.9 million (roughly 7.7 billion rupees) from the ICC alone.

In addition, the Pakistan Cricket Board is hoping to make another 1.16 billion rupees (INR 35 crore) from the Asia Cup 2025 and 7.77 million rupees from other international events. These earnings were seen as critical for keeping Pakistan cricket financially stable.
However, with growing confusion over the Asia Cup 2025, especially after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi skipped the ICC’s recent meetings in Singapore,
An insider was quoted as saying by PTI, “The revenues from these two major sources (ICC and Asia Cup) are very important for the financial health of Pakistan cricket.”
Pakistan Cricket Board's absence at ICC AGM raises eyebrows
The source revealed that the uncertainties about the upcoming Asia Cup’s schedule and venue have intensified after PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not travel to Singapore for the ICC’s recent Annual General Meeting.
Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s federal interior minister, joined the ICC AGM only through a virtual link, raising further doubts about the Pakistan Cricket Board’s involvement and influence in the ongoing discussions, including the fate of the Asia Cup T20 tournament.
An insider revealed that PCB CEO Sumair Ahmed, who attended the ICC meeting, was left disappointed as he "didn't get positive responses" from the cricket boards of India, Sri Lanka, or Afghanistan regarding the upcoming ACC meeting in Dhaka.

ACC meeting in Dhaka faces boycott threat
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, headed by Mohsin Naqvi, is scheduled to be held on July 24 in Dhaka to finalize the arrangements for the upcoming Asia Cup, but the lack of support from the participating boards has made the situation more uncertain.
The source further noted, “The PCB met with plenty of resistance to the ACC scheduling the meeting in Dhaka. India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Oman, and a few other associate member boards were adamant about not travelling to Dhaka.”
Talks during the recent ICC meeting have raised fresh doubts about the Asia Cup 2025, which is set to take place as planned in September. The biggest concern is that the BCCI has shown no interest in sending its officials to Dhaka for the upcoming ACC board meeting.
India was originally supposed to host the subcontinental tournament, but tensions with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack have complicated things. Now, there’s a strong possibility that the Asia Cup could be shifted to the UAE instead, as Pakistan will also not travel to India for the event.
