The India vs Pakistan match in the upcoming Asia Cup has been a major blow to the BCCI's reputation. The Indian Cricket Board has faced repeated criticism from the public as well as several established personages.

Now, a Pakistani former player has come forward to bash India for agreeing to the game against the nation in the Asia Cup. India will play against their neighbouring rivals on the 14th of September in the UAE.

There has been immense dissatisfaction with the decision of the BCCI since they decided to opt for the game after the Asian Cricket Council AGM, which was held in Dhaka on the 24th of July. Alongside public outrage, some politicians have also stepped in and condemned this move.

Former Pakistan cricketer blames BCCI for 'selective patriotism'

Former Pakistan player Danish Kaneria has now sparked controversy over BCCI's intentions, having raised the question of how BCCI can be okay with their participation in a game against the arch-rivals after they pulled out of a similar fixture recently in the World Championship of Legends.

“Indian players boycotted WCL and called it a national duty. But now Asia Cup vs Pakistan is just fine? If cricket with Pakistan is okay, then WCL should’ve been too. Stop using patriotism when it suits you. Let sport be sport, not propaganda," tweeted Kaneria.

ACC deal with broadcasters forces the India vs Pakistan match

According to the recent claims from the schedule announced, the India vs Pakistan match will be played in the Dubai International Stadium on the 14th of September.

This will be the first time the two rival nations will take on each other after having faced each other last in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy match. As is known to all, the match between the two rival nations always shoots up the TRP and comes in handy for increasing the revenues of the broadcasters.

As a result of this, the Asia Cup 2025 broadcasters had earlier struck a deal with the Asian Cricket Council that India and Pakistan are to be placed in the same group so that they can have at least one game and more in due course of the tournament.

As a result of the deal, India and Pakistan were placed alongside Oman and the UAE in the same group.

India vs Pakistan match cancelled in WCL, not a BCCI decision - Know Why

The India vs Pakistan match was cancelled in the recent ongoing season of the World Championship of Legends 2025. India Champions were supposed to begin their second season with a match against their rivals on the 20th of July at Birmingham.

However, the match was eventually cancelled by the BCCI, since many Indian players were opting out if the match was going to be played.

However, the decision has nothing to do with the BCCI or the Indian government, as the WCL is not governed by any of these bodies, nor do these bodies have any command over the franchise team India Champions.
