Ahead of the highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2026, starting on February 7, allegations of match fixing and breaching several codes have emerged against the USA cricketer Aaron Jones. Jones, who was poised to play the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, is now provisionally suspended under the ICC anti-corruption code.

The USA batter has been charged with five counts of breaching the anti-corruption codes of Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the ICC. For the T20 World Cup 2026, the USA cricket team is in Sri Lanka to conduct their preparations for the tournament. Jones is also with the team and could be named in the final squad of the nation. But now, as the charges are sanctioned against him, Jones is no longer eligible for selection for the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.

USA yet to announce squad for the T20 World Cup 2026

According to ESPNcricinfo, a group of 18 USA players are in a training camp in Sri Lanka ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, including the 31-year-old Jones. The USA cricket team is yet to announce their squad for the tournament.

It is expected that they can confirm a 15-member squad for the title race. But the team management will not be able to pick Aaron Jones for now. The experienced cricketer has 14 days to respond to the charges.

According to the official press release, these charges are issued against Aaron Jones:

Breach of Article 2.1.1 of the CWI Code—fixing, contriving to fix, or otherwise influencing improperly, or being a party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive in any way or otherwise influence improperly, the result, progress, conduct, or other aspect of matches in the Bim10 tournament in 2023/24 (or attempting to do so).

Breach of Article 2.4.2 of the CWI Code—Failing to disclose to Cricket West Indies details of any approaches or invitations to engage in conduct that would amount to a breach of the CWI Code.

Breach of Article 2.4.4 of the CWI Code—Failing or refusing to cooperate with a reasonable investigation carried out by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (or his/her designee) in relation to possible offenses under the CWI Code.

Breach of Article 2.4.4 of the ICC Code—Failing to disclose to the ICC ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the ICC Code.

Breach of Article 2.4.7 of the ICC Code—Obstructing the ACU’s investigation into possible corrupt conduct by concealing and/or tampering with information that may have been relevant to the investigation or that may have constituted evidence or led to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct.

As the International Cricket Council is taking the matter with strict hands, the further procedure can be stretched. "These charges are part of a wider investigation, which is likely to result in further charges being issued against other participants in due course."

Jones helped the USA defeat Pakistan

Currently, the cricketer is suspended from all forms of cricket, with immediate effect. From 28 January 2026, he will have to respond in 14 days.

For the USA cricket team, Aaron Jones has played memorable knocks, including the unbeaten 36 off 26-ball innings against Pakistan. During the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 match, the USA defeated the Pakistan cricket team through a super over.
