Pakistan forces India to enter another ICC tournament in Hybrid Model

Pakistan have qualified for the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, to be played in India in September 2025, with a victory over Thailand in the World Cup Qualifiers. However, the matches featuring Pakistan will not be played on Indian soil due to ongoing political tensions between the two nations.

Pakistan secured their spot in the Women's World Cup by winning four consecutive matches against Ireland, Scotland, the West Indies, and Thailand. They guaranteed a top-two finish in the table. They still have a match remaining against Bangladesh, but it won't impact their qualification for the tournament.

Pakistan Forces India to Host ICC Tournament Under Hybrid Model

Pakistan's qualification for the Women's World Cup could pose challenges for the BCCI. Ahead of the Champions Trophy, the BCCI and PCB agreed that India-Pakistan matches, including in the Women's events, would be held at neutral venues. The BCCI declined to send India to Pakistan for the CT.

Notably, this hybrid model will be implemented during the 2024-2027 event cycle. It was first introduced during the 2023 Asia Cup. India-Pakistan matches will take place at a neutral venue. Any potential India-Pakistan clash in the Women’s event will be held at a neutral venue, likely in Sri Lanka or the UAE.

The 2025 Women's Cricket World Cup is scheduled to take place from September 29 to October 26. The BCCI has proposed five host cities for the tournament—Indore, Mullanpur, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, and Visakhapatnam. However, these venues are still awaiting final approval from the ICC.

Pakistan secured a dominant win over Thailand in the Women’s World Cup Qualifier. Captain Fatima Sana’s decision to bat first paid off as she and Sidra Amin guided the team to 205/6. Sidra laid the foundation with 80 runs, while Sana added an unbeaten 62. The duo added a crucial 97 runs for the fifth wicket.

Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong took two wickets. However, their batting collapsed to 118 in under 35 overs. Nannapat Koncharoenkai top-scored with 19, but no batter could contribute. Sana, Rameen Shamim, and Nashra Sandhu picked up three wickets each, sealing a comprehensive win.

After securing qualification for the Women's World Cup, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana credited her teammates for their support and trust in her leadership. She was proud to lead the side and shared her ambition to finish the qualifiers unbeaten by winning their final match.

"We have qualified, and the main credit goes to our team — they supported me a lot and gave me the opportunity to captain this side," said Fatima Sana after the match.

"Hopefully, we will try to win the final match as well and aim to remain unbeaten throughout the qualifiers, finishing at the top of the table."
