The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has signed an MoU with the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation (SACF) in a ceremony held on Thursday with an aim to build a world-class cricket stadium in Jeddah, which will be laced with modern facilities, to strengthen the sport in Saudi Arabia.

The proposed project will be jointly undertaken by PCB and SACF in the upcoming days. With the joint collaboration between the two cricket boards, the proposed stadium is expected to get all kinds of world-class equipment to meet the modern standards of cricket, so that, in the future, international matches can be held there.

What is the aim of the project?

From their official ‘X’ handle, Saudi Cricket has shared the brief about their decision and the project, which is a part of Saudi Vision 2030.

Mentioning PCB in the official post, Saudi Cricket informs, “The Saudi and Pakistani Cricket Federations have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding to develop a cricket stadium in the city of Jeddah. These strategic outcomes represent the targeted impact of this partnership, supporting the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.”

Al Saudi explains their ambitious project with the Pakistan Cricket Board

In an official statement, Al Saudi stated that the aim of this initiative with the Pakistan Cricket Board is to sustain a long-term future for the development of cricket in Saudi Arabia.

“Today’s partnership is not only about developing an international cricket stadium in Jeddah; it is about building a long-term future for cricket in Saudi Arabia through shared ambition, trusted partnerships and sustainable investment,” Al Saudi was quoted as saying in the joint statement.

It is also informed that the partnership will also look after cooperation in developing integrated venue infrastructure, including playing surfaces, broadcast and media facilities, hospitality areas, training facilities, and spectator services to provide every person involved in a match a world-class experience.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi issues an official statement regarding the initiative

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi mentioned that it is an honor for them to get the opportunity to work alongside Saudi Cricket. He is hopeful to create a cricket community through this project, which will have a positive impact across the globe.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board is honored to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s exciting cricket journey. Together, we are creating a partnership that will strengthen the game, connect our cricketing communities and leave a lasting legacy,” Mohsin Naqvi said in his statement.

After the establishment of the SACF in 2020, cricket in the Kingdom has witnessed significant growth and popularity. Since 2020, the cricket board has arranged multiple initiatives and programmes to promote the game throughout Saudi Arabia. With those initiatives, the national team has also attracted significant growth over the years. The cricket board has also arranged multiple tournaments with some of the top-class teams of the cricketing world.

It is worth noting that cricket in Saudi Arabia was introduced back in 1960, with help from India and Pakistan. Years after the introduction, the Kingdom became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2003 and then became an associate member in 2016.
