Pakistan hosted matches of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and it's the first time the country hosted an ICC event since 1996. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) received more positive news from the ICC, as Pakistan has been awarded the hosting rights for the Women's World Cup Qualifiers.

The ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers will determine the final two teams for the World Cup, set to take place in India later this year. Six teams have already secured their spots for the marquee tournament. The qualifiers are expected to start on April 4, with final confirmation on dates and venues still pending.

Pakistan Set to Host ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Qualifiers

According to a report by Cricbuzz, the ICC is set to announce Pakistan as the host for the Women's World Cup Qualifiers. Six teams—Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, Ireland, Scotland, and Thailand—will compete for the two remaining spots in the World Cup, scheduled to take place in India in October.

While the exact dates and venues are yet to be confirmed, Lahore is likely to host the matches. Lahore hosted matches in the Champions Trophy, including the semifinal between South Africa and New Zealand.

Pakistan is set to host a multi-team women's ICC event for the first time. The country hosted the ongoing eight-team ICC Champions Trophy and a tri-series featuring New Zealand and South Africa.

Six of the eight teams have already secured their spots in the Women’s World Cup 2025. The qualified teams include hosts India, Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. These teams earned direct entry by finishing at the top of the ICC Women’s Championship points table.

Pakistan to Travel to India for Women's World Cup 2025?

The upcoming Women's World Cup qualifiers are drawing attention due to the diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. The BCCI and PCB recently agreed, under ICC supervision, that any global match involving their national teams will be held at a neutral venue.

This arrangement is already in place for the ongoing Champions Trophy, where India are playing all their matches in Dubai. If Pakistan's women's team qualifies for the World Cup, a major issue will be where an India-Pakistan match will take place.

The PCB may not send the women's team to India. Notably, the ICC may need to intervene regarding the schedule for the World Cup.

India Last Hosted the Women's World Cup in 2013

India hosted the Women's World Cup in 2013, with a partial hybrid model. While most matches took place in Mumbai, Pakistan played their games in Cuttack due to security concerns arising from threats by a political party.

The upcoming Women's World Cup qualifiers in Pakistan are set to overlap with the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which is scheduled to begin on April 11. Both the PCB and ICC will need to coordinate adjustments to avoid a clash between the qualifiers and the T20 franchise league.
