Former pacer Mohammad Amir has said that the Men's Pakistan National Cricket Team is nearing losing its full-time cricket-playing nation status, as their performance graph fell so low that they were even getting defeated by Bangladesh.
Amir's criticism came right after the first ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan (BAN vs PAK) on March 11, when the host team, Bangladesh, brutally smashed the away team in Dhaka. In the first of the 3-match ODI series, Bangladesh won by 8 wickets in 15.1 overs with ease.

Despite including some fresh talents in the line-up, the team, led by Shaheen Afridi, faced a batting collapse. After losing the toss, the Men in Green brigade went to bat first and scored only 114 runs for 10 wickets in 30.4 overs; one of the most shameful performances in the format by the team. Bangladesh did not have to grind too much to claim the match.
First, a disappointing run in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, now, in a 50-over match, bundled for only 114 runs, cricket experts unleashed their anger on the team. Among the critics, Mohammad Amir, taking a step further, said that in the future, the team might be transformed into an associate team.

"We've started losing to Bangladesh. I'm afraid we might even become an associate team", Mohammad Amir said.
Which are currently the associate teams across the globe? Lower-ranked teams like Scotland, the Netherlands, Nepal, UAE, USA, Namibia, Canada, and Oman are some of the key names among the associate teams that often feature in the various ICC events and regional tournaments.
According to the latest ICC rankings, the Men in Green are at the sixth spot of the T20I rankings. In ODIs, Pakistan is ranked at number 4, while Bangladesh is positioned at number 10. Which means, yesterday, Pakistan, the fourth-ranked ODI team, was defeated by the number 10 team of the rankings.
Back-to-back must-win matches for the team in the ongoing series
To prove Mohammad Amir wrong and prove their skills and credibility, the team led by Shaheen Afridi must try to win the remaining two matches of the series against Bangladesh.
The second match of the competition will be arranged on March 13, and the remaining match will be on March 15. If Bangladesh manages to win the March 13th game, then they will be the winner of the contest, making the third game only a prestige fight.
After losing the first match, Afridi himself vows to bounce back in the remaining matches, taking lessons from the first ODI. He praised Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana for his brilliant spells.
"Yeah, I think we started well when Nahid Rana came. So I think he bowled really well. And yeah, the start we wanted, that was not achieved for the first game, but there are still two games, and as a team we're ready for that", the Pakistan captain said.
