Pakistan vs Afghanistan cricket stopped! New series announced
PC: X

Pakistan will have to find a new team to host since Afghanistan is highly unlikely to arrive for the series in Pakistan.

Pakistan are currently having the busiest home season among all teams in the world, as they will be hosting three different sides over the course of two months across different formats of the game.

Currently, they are hosting a long series across all three formats of the game. With two Test matches and three 3-match series each in the two white-ball formats, this series is expected to be stretched until November. This compelling schedule has been arranged to help Mike Hesson finalize a team before the two upcoming World Cups in 2026 and 2027.

PCB faces backlash, this time from Afghanistan

The PCB has been facing backlash since the Asia Cup, first for their controversial moves against ICC's Match Referee, then for their disrespectful behavior with the Indian fans, and finally with their Chief usurping the Asia Cup trophy won by the champion side India.

Amid all these controversies, they might have to bear the blow of another huge setback if Afghanistan forbids them to travel to Pakistan for the tri-series next month. Pakistan were scheduled to play Afghanistan for a T20I series before the Asia Cup; however, they had converted it into a tri-series by involving the Asia Cup hosts, the UAE.

This time, they are expected to host a T20I tri-series with Afghanistan and Sri Lanka touring the nation. However, considering the cross-border tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, they might cite security reasons to forbid their players from traveling to the neighboring nation.

Under such conditions, the PCB would have to find a replacement team to continue with their plans for the T20I tri-series.

Pakistan to host Sri Lanka for a long white-ball tour

Pakistan will host Sri Lanka for a three-match ODI series before the tri-series begins in November as a part of their stacked home season. This will be the first time the two teams play in an ODI game since the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup.

It will also be Sri Lanka's first game against Pakistan on their soil since 2019. As per the schedule, the matches are set to be played on the 11th, 13th, and 15th of November this year. All matches are to be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Pakistan likely to tour Sri Lanka ahead of ICC T20 World Cup 2026

Pakistan have also set their plans in motion for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2025. The PCB are already in talks alongside the Sri Lanka Cricket board for a 3-match T20I series in January 2026.

Sri Lanka are the official co-hosts of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in 2026, and Pakistan, as per their treaty with the BCCI, are likely to play all their matches in the Lankan islands. Hence, the tour to Sri Lanka would give them an idea of the conditions in the nation.
