The Pakistan Women’s National Cricket Team has suffered a double blow as they have been fined for maintaining a slow overrate during their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash against the India Women’s National Cricket Team in Birmingham on June 14.

The Pakistan girls were already handed a crushing 64-run defeat by the India women in one of the biggest matches of the tournament, and now the International Cricket Council (ICC) slammed them with fines for maintaining a slow over rate in Birmingham.

Pakistan fined after crushing loss to India in ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026

The ICC has fined the Pakistan Women’s National Cricket Team five percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during the Group A match against the India Women’s National Cricket Team during their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash on Sunday.

After reviewing the Group A match and taking all time allowances into account, the match officials found that Pakistan had fallen one over short of the required rate against India.

Under the ICC's playing rules, teams are penalized financially if they fail to bowl their overs within the allotted time. Since Pakistan finished one over behind the expected rate, the players were fined five percent of their match fees.

Who levelled the charges?

The charge was made by the on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacqueline Williams along with the TV umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth umpire Sue Redfern after the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 match. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana accepted the offense and agreed to the punishment, which meant there was no need for any formal hearing or further investigation.

Well, Pakistan will next face South Africa at the same venue on June 17, while India’s next T20 World Cup 2026 match is against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

Really happy with the way we fielded: Harmanpreet Kaur

After the match, Kaur defended the team's poor fielding at the start against Pakistan.

She said, “Cricket is a game where, if you catch every ball and if you take all the catches, you always win matches. And I think that's what happened while fielding. We wanted to give ourselves to every ball and are really happy with the way we fielded and the overall game.”
