As the countdown to the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 has already started, Pakistan and South Africa served up breathtaking batting performances in the ongoing three-match ODI series. The second ODI between had everything from blazing centuries and shifting momentum to a dramatic collapse, but it was Sidra Ameen's celebration that stole the show in Lahore.
South Africa’s dominance began right from the top. Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt unleashed a batting storm, smashing Pakistan’s bowlers to all corners of the ground. The pair put on a monumental 260-run stand, which is the third-highest in women's ODIs.
Second ODI between South Africa and Pakistan turns into a batting spectacle
Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt’s opening stand is only behind the 268 by Caroline Atkins and Sarah Taylor (against South Africa in 2008) and the world record for the highest opening stand of 320 by Punam Raut and Deepti Sharma (against Ireland in 2017).

Brits was unstoppable, finishing unbeaten on a career-best 171 off 141 balls, laced with 20 boundaries and four towering sixes. On the other hand, Wolvaardt reached her ninth ODI hundred as the rain briefly interrupted the game. She hit 10 boundaries during his century. When play resumed, South Africa finished at 292 for 3 in 46 overs against Pakistan women.
Sidra Ameen leads Pakistan's fightback, but South Africa wins battle
Diana Baig scalped two wickets for the hosts. Pakistan’s reply was full of courage and drama. Chasing a stiff 313-run target under revised conditions, the hosts stumbled early and lost three quick wickets. Omaima Sohail fought hard with a brisk 43, but the game came alive when Sidra Ameen and Natalia Pervaiz took the charge against the South African women in Lahore.
Sidra Ameen and Omaima Sohail stunned South Africa with a breathtaking 146-run stand in just 111 balls, giving Pakistan real hope. Ameen played a stunning knock of 122 runs off 110 balls after South Africa’s sloppy fielding gifted her several lifelines.
It was Sidra Ameen’s sixth ODI century and back-to-back ton in the ongoing ODI series. In the first ODI, Ameen had smashed an unbeaten 121 off just 150 balls laced with 12 boundaries. However, her blitz could not save the match of Pakistan women, as the Proteas won the game by eight wickets.

Sidra Ameen makes history with back-to-back ODI centuries; her celebration goes viral
Sidra Ameen made history by scoring her second century in a row against South Africa. With her latest ton, she became the first woman from Pakistan to hit back-to-back hundreds in ODI cricket. Out of the ten centuries ever scored by Pakistani women in ODIs, six now belong to Amin.
The 33-year-old’s special moment was made even more memorable with a celebration that instantly grabbed attention. After reaching her milestone, the right-handed batter proudly raised six fingers toward the crowd, showing how many centuries she has to her name.

Pakistan's collapse hands South Africa ODI series win in Lahore thriller
Coming back to the second ODI, Chloe Tryon struck at the perfect moment, dismissing Amin and breaking Pakistan’s backbone. It led to a dramatic collapse that crushed the home side’s hopes. In just nine balls, Pakistan lost skipper Fatima Sana, set batter Pervaiz for 73, and Diana Baig.
The pressure was too much, and wickets kept tumbling. Nadine de Klerk shone with 3/45, as Pakistan crumbled from a strong position to be bowled out for 287 in 44.4 overs.
Seven wickets fell for just 40 runs in a shocking end to a brave chase as the tourists won the second ODI by 25 runs via the DLS method and sealed the series with a 2-0 lead. The final ODI is scheduled for September 22.
