Paras Mhambrey kicks aside Sandeep Sharma to name 'very different' RR pacer who can add variety to Indian bowling attack
Ex-India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has worked with a lot of young Indian fast bowlers during his tenure with Team India as well as the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Recently, Mhambrey picked the lanky fast bowler Prasidh Krishna as one bowler who can be extremely useful in bouncy conditions like Australia and South Africa.
Prasidh Krishna has all the attributes to be a lethal fast bowler, especially in longer formats. He is tall and bowls at a high pace as well. His height can be uncomfortable for batters and on conditions favoring bounce, Krishna can be devastating.
But injuries have affected his performance so far. He has been in and out of the side and despite getting many opportunities, he hasn't been able to stake his claim in any of the formats.

Paras Mhambrey names Prasidh Krishna as the bowler who can be useful in overseas conditions
Paras Mhambrey has set his eyes on the progress of Prasidh Krishna and wants the fast bowler to progress. While speaking to Hindustan Times, Mhambrey reckoned that Prasidh Krishna can be useful in conditions favoring bounce. Mhambrey also added that Prasidh's height makes him different from others.
“I want to see how Prasidh (Krishna) progresses. That's one name that comes to mind. He has shown a lot of potential. Tall guy. He's very different from the others. Hits the deck hard. You need to have bowlers to use different conditions. He is one bowler who can be of use in Australia, South Africa and add a lot of variety to the attack,” said Mhambrey.
Prasidh Krishna underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon in February this year which ruled him out of IPL 2024 as well. The young fast bowler is set to make his comeback in domestic cricket.
Prasidh Krishna's disappointing Test debut
He made his Test debut in the series against South Africa in 2023. Despite having favorable conditions in Centurion and Cape Town, Prasidh Krishna struggled to control his lines and lengths. He ended up with just two wickets in two Tests at an average of 65.
Prasidh Krishna has a better record in ODIs where he has picked up 29 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 25.58 and an economy rate of 5.60. At one time, he was even in contention for a spot in India's 2023 ODI World Cup squad but poor fitness again ruled him out of the race.
With his height and pace, Krishna can be lethal with the red ball and India will hope for the lanky fast bowler to be fit and available for the longer format. Krishna has an impressive first-class record for Karnataka where he has picked up 58 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 19.41 with three five-wicket hauls to his name.
Mhambrey also picked some other young bowlers who can be India's X-factors in overseas conditions because of their high pace.
“There is Kuldeep Sen. He has an x-factor. He is another tall guy with the ability to generate pace, but both he and Prasidh are struggling with fitness. Mayank Yadav is a recent case of someone who has stormed the IPL. Raw pace. Again, someone who has fitness issues. We have to manage them," he said.
Whatever little I saw of Mohsin Khan, I was very impressed. A tall left-armer, generates a lot of bounce. Obviously, Umran Malik is also there. Apart from Avesh, Harshit, Mukesh, and the others on the team, I feel these are the guys we should look forward to,” Mhambrey added.
