It is the same pitch where the Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated the defending champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the group phase of the ongoing IPL 2026 season. The final is at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the home ground of GT.
The Shubman Gill-led side is up against RCB at the home ground, and on the pitch where they have some good memories. Before the first over of the grand finale, the assistant coach of GT, Parthiv Patel, was asked about the advantages they have received against the Rajat Patidar-led team.
Will the pitch play a vital role in the IPL 2026 final?
The discussion is crucial as a very minor difference can create a massive gap between the two teams. However, Patel has different thoughts. For him, the pitch is not an advantage for them, as the final is a whole lot different game.
The assistant coach of GT mentioned that they are well aware of the conditions here, as it is their home ground. But to win the match, to outplay the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, they will have to display a clutch performance, but the pitch will not help them win the match.
“As you rightly said, these things do not matter much in a final match. You try to execute the plans you have made. And since it is our home ground, we know how the conditions are, where they change, and what kind of conditions they are. But certainly, we have to play well,” Parthiv Patel stated on playing at the same pitch used in the win against RCB during the league phase.
Parthiv Patel talks about team bonding
The atmosphere of the Narendra Modi Stadium is truly electrifying, a full house in Ahmedabad. It is the home ground of the Gujarat Titans, but the Royal Challengers Bengaluru receive huge support as soon as they enter the stadium.
Patel reflects on the bond they have shared. He says that whenever the team went under pressure, it was their close bonding that helped them to overcome all kinds of adverse situations. “The Titans' support staff is like family. The support and backup we receive from them is immense, and they help us during close games and in pressure situations,” he added.
GT vs RCB match in the IPL 2026 group stage
Gujarat defeated Bengaluru on April 30 in the 42nd match of this season’s Indian Premier League. Against the thriving bowling attack of the home team, RCB’s batting folded for only 155 runs inside the 20th over of the first innings. The pitch presented a similar contest between the bat and ball.
GT too lost a few wickets during the chase, but in the end, they won the match with ease. With 25 balls to spare, the Gujarat Titans won the match by 4 wickets. Pace bowling all-rounder Jason Holder was named the Player of the Match for his effective all-rounder performance. The West Indies star claimed a couple of wickets and scored 12 runs for the winning cause.
