Paul Adams Accuses Mark Boucher Of Using A Racial Slur Against Him During His Playing Days

Former South Africa spinner Paul Adams has opened up on the racial discrimination he faced during his playing days. Cricket South Africa’s Social Justice and Nation Building plans to hear incidents of racism from 58 different individuals. The likes of Thami Tsolekile and Lonwabo Tsotsobe have also shared instances of facing racism previously.

Paul Adams represented South Africa from 1995 to 2003 in 45 Tests and 24 ODIs. The unconventional left-arm spinner also enjoyed reasonable success, taking 134 Test wickets at 32.87, with five fifers and 29 victims in One-day internationals. However, unfortunately, Adams’ career did not last long and failed to live up to its promise.

Paul Adams revealed that he was referred to as brown sh*t during the victory songs and that the team flows with it during the victory moment. However, the 44-year old revealed that it counts as blatant racism.

“There was a song that was sung; ‘brown sh*t in the ring tra-la-la-la.’ When you are playing for your country, you’re in that victory (moment), you don’t make sense of it, you just go along with it, brush it off, but it’s actually blatant racism,” Adams spoke in CSA’s Social Justice and Nation-Building hearings

Maybe Boucher should come and say sorry: Paul Adams

Paul Adams singled out current South Africa coach Mark Boucher as the one repeating the slang, believing that he owes an apology. The former left-arm spinner called for things to change moving forward as they would have a lot more respect for each other.

“I’m just highlighting that it should never happen and if we take this forward in the right way, we will have a lot more respect for each other. Maybe he Boucher should come and say sorry. Maybe that is all that needs to happen,” he added.
