We Lost Too Many Wickets At The Top: Shikhar Dhawan

Punjab Kings’ after having lost the toss didn’t start well with the bat as they lost their openers early. Jonny Bairstow too got out early. Liam Livingstone and Shahrukh Khan brought the innings back on track but brilliant bowling by SRH bowlers in the slog overs meant that Punjab could post only 151 runs on the board.

Punjab Kings’ have played with a set template this season which is to go after the bowling from ball 1. While it has worked for them in some games, it has also cost them a couple of games.

Although they go with a decent run rate in the middle overs, they struggle to finish well at the death because they lose too many wickets in the middle in trying to go for big shots.

That’s exactly what happened against SRH as well, as after being 122-4 at one point, they lost their way and could only post 151 on the board.

“I felt we were 30-40 short, we lost too many early wickets and that hurt us. Once we lost too many wickets then we had to take the game deep and I thought Livingstone played really well. It was a nice wicket, had extra bounce. We will be talking to our batting unit and it’s often happened that we lost too many early wickets, so we have to make sure we have wickets in hand till 13-14 overs”, Dhawan said in the post-match presentation.

Dhawan also gave an update on Mayank Agarwal and said that Agarwal should be back for their next game.
