The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday (January 8) announced the schedule of the 6th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL). The tournament will commence on 20 February in Karachi.
Six teams – Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United, and Multan Sultans – will compete in the 34-day tournament.
Due to the restrictions and risks imposed by the covid-19 virus, and for the safety of the players, the PCB has decided that the tournament will be played in only two cities. The first half will be played at the National Stadium in Karachi and the next half, including the playoffs, is scheduled to be held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. However, there is no decision taken hitherto regarding the crowd in the stadium.
The foreign players participating in the league are asked to arrive in Karachi with a negative PCR test. After arrival, they will require two more negative PCR tests before being allowed to train. The asymptomatic players or support staff returning a positive test will have to serve a five-day isolation period with RT-PCR tests on days one and four.
The opening fixture of the mega-event will see title defenders, Karachi Kings square off against the 2019 champions, Quetta Gladiators.
There will be 9 doubleheaders leading up to the playoffs. The day matches will start at 2 pm; night matches to start at 7 pm; Friday’s double-headers to start at 3 pm and 8 pm, respectively.
The playoffs are of traditional style between 4 teams – Qualifier, Eliminator 1, and Eliminator 2 followed by the final which is slated for 22nd March in Lahore.
