Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has responded after the ICC penalized Haris Rauf for using controversial gestures during the Super Four match against India. Naqvi, who is also the head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), reportedly decided to pay the fine imposed on the fast bowler.
According to several reports, Rauf faced a deduction from his match fees for using abusive language on Sunday, September 21. He attended a hearing with match referee Richie Richardson on Friday and pleaded "not guilty." Notably, the ICC has not yet made an official announcement regarding the penalty.
Mohsin Naqvi Set to Pay ICC Fine Imposed on Haris Rauf
According to a report in Samaa TV, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi decided to personally pay the fine imposed on pacer Haris Rauf for his conduct during the Super Four match against India.
Haris Rauf was fined 30% of his match fees. He made the controversial “6-0” gesture toward Indian fans, referencing Pakistan’s unverified claims of downing six Indian fighter jets. He also used abusive language during exchanges with Indian players, including Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Sanju Samson.
Haris Rauf earns 418,584 PKR per T20I match, and 30% of his fee is around 125,575 PKR (approximately 39,000 INR), which Naqvi will cover personally.
Notably, Naqvi had earlier shared a Cristiano Ronaldo meme highlighting the “6-0” reference, which drew backlash from the cricketing community.
Suryakumar Yadav Punished by ICC Ahead of Asia Cup 2025 Final
Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan received an official warning from the match referee for his on-field celebration. Farhan mimicked a gun after reaching his half-century.
The BCCI had formally lodged a complaint with ICC match referee Andy Pycroft, claiming that Farhan and Haris Rauf crossed the line of acceptable conduct during the game.
In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board filed complaints against Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for his post-match comments following the group-stage clash on September 14. The PCB stated that Yadav made political statements in the tournament.
The ICC reviewed the matter and determined that Suryakumar had violated the code of conduct. Suryakumar pleaded not guilty, but match referee Richie Richardson rejected his appeal. Reports also suggested that the PCB requested a Level 4 sanction, which is the most severe disciplinary action.
India To Take On Pakistan For Third Time in Asia Cup 2025 Final
Following India’s seven-wicket triumph over Pakistan in the Group A match, Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the win to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and expressed support for the Indian Armed Forces.
The Men in Blue will take on Pakistan for the third time in the tournament during the Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 28. Notably, India have won both previous encounters in this edition.
The Men in Blue will meet their arch-rivals for the first time in an Asia Cup final. India have previously lifted the trophy eight times, while Pakistan have won it twice. Suryakumar Yadav’s side will enter as favorites for the summit clash.
