The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a bold and dramatic step just days before the start of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, starting on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka. Recently, PCB announced it would boycott the India vs India game on February 15 in Colombo.
Pakistan turns heat on ICC ahead of T20 World Cup 2026 with 6 huge demands
This move is to show support to Bangladesh after the International Cricket Council (ICC) removed them from the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 for refusing to travel to India for their matches despite no security threat. Bangladesh was later replaced by Scotland in the tournament.
Earlier, PCB reported wanting to boycott the tournament, but now they demanded no game with India, co-host of the showpiece event. Following the discussion with the Pakistan Government, the PCB decided to play in the T20 World Cup 2026.
But they have now reportedly placed six shocking demands in front of the ICC, including the chairman Jay Shah, in a last-ditch effort to avoid boycotting the India vs Pakistan match. These demands are being pushed as part of what Pakistan calls a mutually acceptable solution, reported RevSportz journalist Rohit Juglan.
Resumption of India vs Pakistan Bilateral Series
PCB’s first and biggest demand is the resumption of the full bilateral series with India. This means regular series across formats, not just ICC or ACC tournaments. Pakistan believes that playing only in global events is unfair and wants normal cricket ties restored like before.
The arch rivals last played a bilateral series in 2012-13, when Pakistan toured India for a limited-overs series. Since then, the two nations have not played a bilateral series due to ongoing political tensions, and the recent military war made things even worse between them.
India vs Pakistan Test Match in WTC
Pakistan has demanded the ICC for a India vs Pakistan Test match to be included in the World Test Championship. Since playing in either country is sensitive, they suggested neutral venues like Dubai, Melbourne, London, or Harare. The board believes that Test cricket between India and Pakistan is important for fairness and global interest.
They last played a Test match back in 2007 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and that match ended in a draw, and India had clinched the series 1-0 against Pakistan.
Pakistan Wants to Scrap Neutral Venues
Another major demand is ending the neutral venue system altogether for India vs Pakistan games. Pakistan wants future matches between the two countries to happen in their home countries, not at third locations, which is currently happening because the Indian government is not allowing the national team to cross the border due to security reasons.
Because of this, both teams play their games at neutral venues, though Pakistan had come for the 2023 World Cup in India. The PCB is pushing for this rule to be changed in the Future Tours Programme (FTP) schedule so teams travel to each other’s countries instead of playing at neutral venues.
PCB Asks for Bigger Share of ICC Revenue
The PCB is also demanding a higher cut of ICC revenue. Presently, Pakistan gets around 5.75 percent of total ICC revenue. Now, they feel this is too low a share.
They have even submitted viewership and revenue data to prove that matches involving Pakistan bring massive TV audiences and big money, so they deserve a larger share of the ICC's revenue.
Call to End Discrimination Against Pakistani Players in T20 Leagues
The PCB believes its players are being unfairly ignored or restricted in T20 leagues around the world despite strong performances. Now, they want equal treatment and open access for Pakistani cricketers in global franchise leagues.
Notably, Pakistani players are banned in the IPL, and they are not getting access to the Indian-owned teams in the overseas leagues, including SA20 of South Africa and ILT20 of the UAE.
Pakistan Pushes for Bangladesh’s Return to T20 World Cup
In a shocking move, the PCB has demanded that Bangladesh be brought back into the tournament, even though Scotland is ready to fly as the replacement. They believe Bangladesh was unfairly removed and made their reinstatement a key condition in talks with the ICC.
