Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has come out in support of out-of-form Indian player Virat Kohli. With the conclusion of the England tour, the pressure is mounting on Indian selectors, and team management, including skipper Rohit Sharma and moreover on Kohli himself.

How do they justify the place of someone who has earned so many laurels in his 14 years long international career, but suddenly is feeling the pressure to deliver at his own best? Kohli has always been in the headlines either for scoring a truckload of runs or just returning with low scores.

How did Virat Kohli fare on England tour?

Kohli’s lean patch with the bat has been in the limelight since the time he relinquished Indian team captaincy from all formats. He scored 11 and 20 in the rescheduled fifth Test against England, which India lost by seven wickets and levelled the series 2-2. He was rested for the first T20I but returned with scores of 1 and 10 in the next two games.

Nothing changed in the ODI leg as the 33-year-old managed 16 and 17 in the last two matches after missing the first due to a groin injury.

Virat Kohli is a different player altogether: Kamran Akmal

Midway through the England tour, it was reported that the Indian selectors will decide Kohli’s place in the T20 World Cup based on his form in the white-ball leg.

“He’s a different player altogether. Everyone goes through these phases. Some players endure it for a brief period, some go through it for long,” Akmal said in an interaction with

“He only needs one big innings. His belief and his passion for the game make him stand apart. Do you think that a player who has 70 centuries will listen to those asking for his ouster from the side? People who have played 1-2 matches are now giving opinions on him. I can only laugh,” he added.

Kohli has been rested for the upcoming West Indies ODI matches and wasn’t included in the T20I squad. The senior player himself requested the BCCI to rest him for the five-match T20I series against West Indies.
