Pakistan National Cricket Team red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie reacted to the disappointing loss that the team faced in the first Test against the England National Cricket Team. He said that it's just their third Test and people should understand that they are in an early space.
Pakistan National Cricket Team's torrid run in Test cricket continued. They suffered a humiliating innings and 47 runs loss in the first game and went 0-1 down in the three-match Test series against the England National Cricket Team at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan suffered massive loss after posting 556 runs in first innings
The defeat came as a big shock for the Pakistan team because they suffered an innings defeat after posting 556 runs in the first innings. This was also the first time in the history of the longest format of the game that a team went on to suffer an innings defeat after posting a total of over 500 runs in the first innings.
Pakistan opted to bat first, and they had a terrific outing with the bat. Skipper Shan Masood (151) and Abdul Shafique (102) slammed magnificent centuries at the top. Saud Shakeel (82) played a vital hand as well before Salman Ali Agha (104) slammed a century to take his team to a total of 556 runs.
But even after that, they were outshined by the England National Cricket Team. Harry Brook (317) and Joe Root (262) came up with humongous efforts with the bat. They posted a total of 823 runs on the board and took a lead of over 200 runs in the first innings.
After that, Pakistan came up with a horrendous effort with the bat. No other batter could get going as they got all out for 220 runs to suffer an innings and 47-run loss.
Please understand that this management, myself included, this is our 3rd Test - Jason Gillespie
Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie, while talking about the performance, pointed out that people are demanding a change in players, but they have the best lot of players in the mix. He mentioned that they don't have skill issues and they need to make sure that they adjust and adapt in the game. Speaking after the game, Jason Gillespie explained:
“Please understand that this management, myself included, this is our 3rd Test. It’s very early for us in this space. We’ve looked at past performances and we’re looking at performances right now. Sometimes players are better players when they aren’t in the team.
"Everyone is crying out for change, change. I understand that people want to see results and performances. But we’ve got some very fine players in the dressing room. Skill levels aren’t the issue. We just need to make sure we’re in the game and adjusting and adapting in the game and finding solutions there, rather than reflecting at the end of the day’s play or match that we should have done this and that. In-game solutions is something we talk about a lot.” said Jason Gillespie.
I wasn’t upset with the surface here - Jason Gillespie
Jason Gillespie also talked about the pitch at the Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan, which received a lot of criticism for being flat. The head coach mentioned that talk about pitch was there because they didn't get their plans right and execute their skills. He added:
“I wasn’t upset with the surface here. It’s pretty much what we expected and what we thought was going to be the best opportunity to play well in the game. If you look at our first innings, we put up a score of 550 and that part was fine.
"No one was saying anything about the surface then. It was only when we didn’t get our plans right and execute our skills with the ball that everyone started to talk about the surface,"Jason Gillespie concluded.
