Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian team for clinching the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). After hosting the team, BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah at his residence, Narendra Modi shared photos on his official handle.

The Men in Blue ended their 11-year trophy drought with a victory over South Africa in the final match of the T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29. The Rohit Sharma-led team secured a seven-run victory against South Africa in the thrilling final match. It marked the Indian team's second T20 World Cup trophy.

An Excellent Meeting With Out Champions - Narendra Modi

The T20 World Cup-winning team returned home and met with Narendra Modi at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on Thursday, July 4. Modi interacted with Indian captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and other team members for breakfast around 11 AM IST.

Narendra Modi hosted the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team for an hour-long meeting. Later, Modi took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share photos. Modi stated that he had an excellent and memorable conversation with the champions about their experiences in the recently concluded tournament.

“An excellent meeting with our Champions! Hosted the World Cup winning team at 7, LKM and had a memorable conversation on their experiences through the tournament,” Modi tweeted.

After meeting Prime Minister Modi at his residence, the Indian players departed for Mumbai, where the BCCI arranged for an open bus parade from Marine Drive to end at the Wankhede Stadium. The Indian team will receive a prize of Rs 125 crore from BCCI Secretary Jay Shah during a ceremony at the Stadium.

We Extend Our Heartfelt Gratitude - BCCI

The BCCI expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for meeting with the victorious Indian cricket team at his official residence. They thanked him for his inspiring words and unwavering support. The Indian presented a jersey to the Prime Minister after the meeting. 

"The triumphant Indian Cricket Team met with the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modiji, at his official residence today upon arrival. Sir, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you for your inspiring words and the invaluable support you have provided to #TeamIndia Jai Hind"

The Indian cricket squad, along with support staff, families, and media personnel, faced a stranded situation in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. The hurricane caused the closure of Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown for three days. The Indian team and others returned to India on Thursday, July 4, morning.

Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Jay Shah arranged the flight for Team India from Barbados to India. After landing, the team headed to the ITC Maurya Hotel, where they lodged before they met with Narendra Modi. At the hotel, they celebrated their victory with a special cake featuring the T20 World Cup trophy
