Just hours before the high-voltage India vs New Zealand T20 World Cup 2026 final on Sunday, March 8, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, big drama unfolded off the field in Ahmedabad that caught everyone’s attention.
With thousands of cricket fans rushing to watch the title clash between the Indian National Cricket Team and the New Zealand National Cricket Team, Ahmedabad Police launched a surprise crackdown on illegal ticket selling near the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Two illegal ticket sellers arrested before T20 World Cup 2026 Final
As reported by India Today, the Ahmedabad City Crime Branch caught two men who were secretly selling match tickets at very high prices ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 final. Police officials acted quickly after receiving a tip-off about suspicious activity near the Usmanpura Gujarat Vidyapith bus stand area.

They have set up a trap and stopped the suspects for checking. During the search, they recovered eight match tickets that were being sold illegally. Investigations revealed that the accused had purchased the tickets earlier through online booking and were trying to sell them to desperate fans at almost three times the original price.
Each ticket was reportedly being offered for around ₹10,000. Police immediately seized all the tickets and started legal action against the two men. Authorities are now checking whether more people are involved in this illegal ticket racket. The police believe there could be a bigger network trying to take advantage of the huge demand for the India vs New Zealand final.
Massive security deployment for T20 World Cup 2026 final
Meanwhile, security across Ahmedabad has been tightened massively before the T20 World Cup 2026 finals. Ahmedabad Police Chief GS Malik revealed that more than 3,000 police personnel, along with around 1,000 home guards, have been deployed around the stadium and nearby areas to ensure everything runs smoothly.
GS Malik was quoted as saying by PTI: “Tomorrow, a historic T20 World Cup final is going to be held here at the Narendra Modi Stadium. For this, the police have completed all preparations. We are deploying over 3,000 police personnel and around 1,000 home guards.”

Special crowd-control arrangements have also been created outside the Narendra Modi Stadium. Holding areas near the main gates have been prepared to manage the huge rush of fans and avoid any dangerous overcrowding situations during the final.
Police suspect a bigger black market network
The city police chief made it clear that the police will not tolerate any black marketing of tickets before the big final, where India will try to defend the T20 World Cup title while the Black Caps are chasing their maiden title. He said that strict action will be taken if anyone is caught selling tickets illegally.
Malik signed off by saying, “If any such activity comes to our attention, the police will file a case. We also have clear instructions from higher authorities to take immediate action against anyone involved in black marketing.”
