Opening the innings for the India National Cricket Team with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi would be a great opportunity, ahead of the India vs Zimbabwe 1st T20I, Prabhsimran Singh said in Harare.

For the T20I series against Zimbabwe, Prabhsimran is with the Indian cricket team alongside the 15-year-old young sensation. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his Team India debut during the recently concluded T20I series against England and remains with the team for another away series.

Multiple openers are in contention to represent India in T20Is

In the presence of Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, two other top-order batters in India's T20I team for the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, Prabhsimran Singh's chances to make his India debut remain uncertain.

Based on the present set-up and recent form, Abhishek Sharma is likely to retain an opening slot until the team management decides to try out a brand new opening pair. Prabhsimran Singh with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a possible opening pair if the management formulates a fresh pair without Abhishek Sharma.

In another possibility, the opening pair could be between Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, with Prabhsimran Singh on the bench.

Prabhsimran Singh is on the brink to make debut for the India National Cricket Team

Prabhsimran Singh, a 24-year-old Punjab Kings opener in the Indian Premier League (IPL) who scored 500-plus runs in two consecutive seasons, pointed out that for one opening spot, there are multiple contenders, all of whom are eagerly waiting for a breakthrough match for the Indian cricket team.

"There is so much competition just for the opening spot in the Indian team, and the only thing that comes to mind is, ‘Just give me an opportunity, and if I get the chance, hopefully I’ll do well," Prabhsimran said while talking on JioStar ahead of India's first T20I against Zimbabwe.

Prabhsimran Singh shares his experience batting with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Putting some light on his bond with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the keeper-batter mentioned that for the India A cricket team, they played together side by side as openers. When the India A team was in Sri Lanka for a Trin-nation series, Prabhsimran and Vaibhav were the openers for the team.

Prabhsimran mentioned that as they have played together, they came to know more about each other's approach towards the game, and it was brilliant to watch the emerging batter in motion.

"Recently, we went to play the India A series against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, and Vaibhav was there with me too. Watching him bat is so much fun; it brings a lot of joy. Since we were opening together, we got to spend more time together and discuss various things. It was a great experience," Prabhsimran Singh said.

Eyes will be on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi again as the teenage sensation was not impressive for India during his first three matches in the previous T2I series, which was against England, in England. Against the lower-ranked Zimbabwe cricket team, the left-hander will definitely like to swing his bat according to his true potential.
