Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna opened up about Jasprit Bumrah’s absence in the fifth and final Test match due to workload management. Prasidh added that Bumrah's absence does not disrupt the focus or preparation of the other pacers, noting that it gives others a chance to step up and deliver with the ball.
Jasprit Bumrah was not selected for the fifth Test match at The Oval. The team management had planned for him to play only three of the five Tests during the England tour. On Friday, August 1, the BCCI officially confirmed that the senior pacer had been released from the squad as part of that strategy.
Jasprit Bumrah Playing or Not Doesn’t Affect Our Preparation - Prasidh Krishna
During a press conference after the end of Day 2, Prasidh Krishna was asked whether Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management impacts the preparation of India’s bowlers. He stated that Bumrah’s presence or absence has no impact on the rest of the pace attack.
Prasidh added that all the bowlers have spent enough time together to clearly understand their roles. He added that Bumrah's absence allows others to step up and take responsibility.
"Not at all. Bumrah playing or not playing [doesn't affect the preparation of other bowlers]. All of us as fast bowlers or in general bowlers have spent a lot of time with each other. We know what each one has to be doing when their chance comes. It still remains the same. Him playing, him not playing; I think as bowlers we know what our roles are.
"Him being there, you know what he brings into the picture and when he's not there, one challenge is to step up every single time you have the ball in hand," the 29-year-old went on to add.
I’ve Been Picked Here Because I Can Do the Job - Prasidh Krishna
Prasidh Krishna also spoke about not playing every match, stating that his selection is based on the team's requirements. He emphasized that missing games allows him to improve.
“I have been picked here because I can do the job. Me not playing games can make me go to the drawing board. Here to do the job for the team. It’s a process, not a performance for me,” Prasidh added.
Prasidh began the England series as India's third seamer. However, his performance was underwhelming. He retained his spot for the second Test in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah but managed to take just one wicket.
Following that, Prasidh was dropped from the XI for the third and fourth Tests, with Akash Deep and Anshul Kamboj getting opportunities in the pace attack.
Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj Pick Up Four Wickets Each
India staged a strong comeback on Day 2 of the fifth Test, thanks to standout bowling performances from Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj. Prasidh had a tense exchange with Joe Root and dismissed the key opener Zak Crawley.
He then cleaned up the lower middle order by removing Jamie Smith, Craig Overton, and Gus Atkinson, finishing with his maiden four-wicket haul in Test cricket (4/62 in 16 overs).
Siraj also delivered another impactful spell, picking up four wickets. He dismantled England’s middle order by dismissing Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Harry Brook. With 18 wickets in the series so far, Siraj is now the leading wicket-taker, surpassing Ben Stokes.
England were bowled out for 247, managing only a 23-run lead. India responded confidently with the bat and reached 75/2 by stumps, holding a 52-run lead heading into Day 3.
