The third umpire, possibly confused by Nair’s gesture, gave it a six before asking to check in the available angles. But when the replays were shown again, the third umpire found no evidence of Karun Nair's foot touching the boundary line.

After the match, which Punjab Kings lost by six wickets against Delhi Capitals, the team co-owner and Bollywood actress Preity Zinta was furious. Preity Zinta called the decision unfair and said that such mistakes should not happen in a big tournament like the IPL when the third umpire has so much technology.

To add more fuel to the controversy, Preity Zinta revealed that she personally spoke to Karun Nair after the match, and he confirmed that the ball had definitely crossed the boundary fence, questioning how such a big error could happen in a tech-heavy tournament.

PBKS in trouble after DC defeat, Top-2 finish now uncertain

Meanwhile, PBKS’ six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals has made their path to the top-2 finish on the points table much tougher. Now, they must beat the Mumbai Indians in their final league game, but even that might not be enough for them to secure a place in Qualifier 1.
