He was totally out of India's scheme of things across formats, and then the right-handed batsman also lost his Indian Premier League (IPL) contract with the Delhi Capitals (DC).

Shaw was released by the Delhi Capitals (DC) after his poor performances in back-to-back seasons, and he went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.

The top-order batsman had the base price of INR 75 lakh, but no team was interested in bidding for him, and he wasn't even recalled for the accelerated round of the auction.

Prithvi Shaw's IPL journey

Shaw started his journey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Delhi Capitals (DC) in 2018 and played seven seasons for the Delhi-based team.

In his debut season itself, Shaw impressed everyone as he scored 245 runs in 9 matches at an average of 27.22 and a strike rate of 153.12.

He quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous openers in the world in T20 cricket and backed his debut season heroics very well. However, off-field drama and lack of professionalism led to his massive downfall.

Now, the youngster has once again started showing discipline and commitment towards cricket since joining Maharashtra in domestic cricket.

In a video shared by Star Sports ahead of the auction, the former India allrounder Irfan Pathan was questioned about a player whose absence at the auction table would surprise him the most, to which he responded by naming Prithvi Shaw.

"I think about Prithvi Shaw. A player like Prithvi Shaw - I feel that the kind of talent he has should be justified through performances. Whenever I watch him, I feel, ‘This is a top-quality player, and he really should be delivering consistent performances," he said.
