Prithvi Shaw rekindles hope for India return with century against former side Mumbai

The Maharashtra batter Prithvi Shaw scored a hundred in the Ranji Trophy warm-up match against his former side, Mumbai. He completed his hundred off 140 balls while building on a mammoth partnership of 300+ runs alongside opener Arshin Kulkarni.

The 25-year-old Prithvi Shaw has played in 58 first-class matches so far and has amassed 4456 runs to his name. He has slammed 13 centuries as of now, alongside his 18 half-centuries in his first-class career. His best score is a mammoth 379, which came in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season.

Shaw made his first-class debut for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu in Rajkot on the 1st of January 2017, when he was just 17 years old. In his debut match, he scored a stunning hundred in the second innings after being dismissed for 4 in the first innings.

Prithvi Shaw dominates former side, Mumbai, with a stunning hundred

Prithvi Shaw moved from his former side, Mumbai, to the Maharashtra State team for this domestic season after facing snubs on several occasions in the previous season.

Prithvi Shaw will play for Maharashtra in the 2025-26 domestic season. Ahead of the start of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, Shaw is currently playing in the warm-up game against his former side, Mumbai.

On Day 1 of the warm-up match for Maharashtra, the 25-year-old right-handed batter scored a stunning century. Prithvi scored his hundred off just 140 balls on Tuesday. He reached the 100-run mark by taking a single off the newly named Mumbai skipper, Shardul Thakur.

He came out to open the innings with Arshin Kulkarni, and the duo went on to add 305 runs for the first wicket. Kulkarni, the left-handed dynamic batter, went on to score 186 runs off just 140 balls.

He was sent back to the pavilion by Shams Mulani on the fourth ball of the 50th over. Arshin, in an attempt to play a big shot down the ground off Mulani, was caught sharply by Musheer Khan.

At the time of the dismissal, Shaw himself was batting on 116 runs from just 159 balls and later went on to add further runs for his team.

Maharashtra's Ranji Trophy 2025-26 schedule

Maharashtra will kick off their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season on the 15th of October against Kerala, and then will go on to face Chandigarh in their second Elite Group B match from the 25th of October to the 28th of the month.

After these games, Maharashtra will go on to play the other six of their Elite Group B matches, which are scheduled to be played against Saurashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Goa and Madhya Pradesh.

This season will mark Prithvi Shaw's first season for a team other than Mumbai. The right-handed opening batter has the experience of playing five Test matches for Team India. He made his red-ball debut against the West Indies back in 2018 and scored a hundred in his debut game.
